Demonstrate and quantify the effect of force on a mechanical derrick or truss. This basic working model provides an interesting introduction to simple bridge building by exploring compressions, tensions, force, and equilibrium. With the appropriate accessories, it is designed to demonstrate and confirm the law of Composition of Forces by comparing mathematical, experimental, and geometrical determinations. Our simple device includes a half-meter knife edge with hooks on both ends, V-shaped clamp, and instructions. Operation requires 15 kg/ 30-lb. spring scale, masses, right-angle clamp, mounted pulley, table clamp, and support (not included). Grades 6-12.
