A teacher-created demonstration involving the nature of heat, alloys, elasticity, crystals, matter, force, and motion. Mystery springs are made from a nickel titanium alloy that allows their shape to be altered and then return to its original form with an increase in temperature. This provides a simple but effective and consistent method of demonstrating the phenomenon of “shape memory.” Meets content standard A and B (physical science). Includes information and suggested activities. Grades 7-12.
