Do you know what you can and cannot purchase with Stimulus Funds?



State Fiscal Stabilization Fund ($53.6 Billion)

Stimulus funds can be spent on the following:
  • General support, school modernization, renovation/repair, and construction
  • Public safety and other government services
  • Elementary, secondary, and early childhood education
  • Children with special needs
  • Adult education and family literacy
  • Career and technical education
Stimulus funds cannot be spent on the following:
  • Maintenance costs
  • Stadiums, athletic facilities
  • Purchase or upgrade of vehicles
  • Improvement of facilities without direct educational purpose (central office, support facilities, etc.)
  • Financial assistance to students to attend private schools
NOTE: There is a large degree of flexibility in how the funds can be spent.

Title 1 ($13 Billion)



Funds can be spent on the following:

  • Staff, coaches, etc.
  • Math and reading materials
  • Science products, especially those with cross-curricular ties to math or reading
  • PreK program expansion
  • Online learning improvements
  • Professional development

IDEA ($12.2 Billion)



Funds can be spent on the following:

Technology



Funds can be spent on the following:

  • Technology infrastructure improvements
  • Technology products (includes electronic games, audio learning, hand pointers for use with interactive white boards, etc.)
  • Technology services
  • Professional development

Do you know when stimulus money will be released to you?


Stimulus money for Title 1 and IDEA (Individuals with Disabilities Education Act) is being released in batches. Batch 1 has been released to California, Illinois, South Dakota, Maine, Minnesota, Mississippi, Oregon and Utah.

NOTE: Every state will have a different timeline for handing down funds to districts/schools and different priorities for spending the funds. Your district coordinator should be able to provide you with the dates money will be available for your school.

Nasco recommends you visit your states government website for more information on how your state plans on distributing the stimulus money and when.

Batch 1 was scheduled to be released March/April 2009 in the amount of $32.5 billion.

Batch 2 is scheduled to be released July-September 2009 in the amount of $16 billion.

Batch 3 is scheduled to be released Fall 2009 ($4.35 billion) and Spring 2010 ($650 million). Batch 3 is money awarded to "Race to the Top" and "Investing in What Works and Innovation" Grants.
